Soap Legend Susan Lucci Reveals Terrifying Health Scare

As Erica Kane on All My Children, Susan Lucci led with her heart. Now, she’s shining a light on the importance of heart health following a real-life health scare.

The Emmy-winning actress appeared on Good Morning America to talk to Amy Robach about pains she was feeling in her chest last October. “I thought it was nothing,” Lucci shared.

After a third incident, Lucci, while shopping in a boutique, remembered a story about a woman who once said that before she had her heart attack she felt like an elephant was sitting on her chest. That’s how Lucci was feeling!

The store manager acted quickly and took Lucci to a hospital where the beloved daytime icon discovered that she had two blocked arteries. One was 90% blocked and the other was 75% blocked. Two stints were immediately implanted.

The GMA report added that heart disease is the leading killer among women. “It was genetics for me and stress,” Lucci added.

Asked why women often dismiss warning signs, Lucci speculated that women are often so busy nurturing others they put their own health needs on hold.

“You need to listen to your symptoms and act on them,” Lucci advises.
