Steve Burton made a name for himself in daytime playing Jason Morgan on General Hospital (GH) for more than 20 years.

Sure, he was a character named Jason Quartermaine first, but technically they are the same, although SO much different.

However, in 2012 Burton needed a change and left GH to soon wind up on The Young and the Restless playing Dylan McAvoy, a good guy war veteran revealed to be the never-before-heard-of-son of Nikki Newman and Paul Williams.

And then, change came again last year when Burton opted to return to GH and play Jason Morgan once again.

But, what’s the biggest difference between playing those two wholly opposite characters? His answer is actually really surprising. In essence, on Y&R he can be himself.

And on GH? Well, things seem to be changing.

“Playing Dylan, he was more like my personality. Where I can be…you know…have a personality, instead of you know stone cold all the time,” Burton told Soap Hub on the red carpet at the Daytime Emmys.

“Well, that’s not true anymore. I’m not that Stone Cold anymore. I cry too much. I don’t know what happened to me in the clinic in Russia but I want answers.”

And Jason is sure searching for answers and it looks like he will be for a while, but all in all, Burton is just thrilled to be home.

“It’s been absolutely amazing, better than I ever thought it could be. The writers did such a great job with the story it’s just been perfect,” Burton said.

“I was gone five years, it’s a long time to be gone, missed all my friends and family there just nice to come home.”

And GH fans are thrilled to have him home. For now, it looks like The Young and the Restless’ loss vs. General Hospital’s gain.

General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
