Royal families are, by definition, special ones. Unrelated people recognize them, draw comfort from their existence, and hang on their every move! On all for remaining daytime dramas, you find soap royalty. See what some soap vets have to say about these iconic families.
Maurice Benard rules over his on-screen family as Sonny with an imperiousness befitting his 23 years on the show, said on-screen son, Bryan Craig.
“It’s an entire team of writers, actors, and of course, our executive producer Frank Valentini, that make this family work,” noted Benard in an article by soap journalist Michael Fairman that appeared on the Daytime Emmys last month.
John McCook, patriarch of the Forrester family on “Bold and the Beautiful” had his own take.
“The Forrester family’s wealth and status come from their skill in fashion design and business, he said.
Caroline Forrester even married into the fashion clan twice.
“I love any time I get to work with the Forrester men,” actress Linsey Godfrey said.
“It’s the best family, I believe, in daytime,” Joshua Morrow said of the flawed but strongly bonded Newman family, the resident royals on “The Young and the Restless.” Eric Braeden and Melody Thomas Scott’s long-standing star power intimidated more than one younger Newman upon joining the family fold.
The beloved Hortons on “Days of Our Lives” have reined over their daytime kingdom for more than 50 years! Melissa Reeves (Jennifer Horton Deveraux) summed up the Hortons this way: “The running theme for this family is that they can overcome.”
Indeed, the will and ability to strive forward with whatever life hands them has given all four families their staying power. Long live the kings and queens of daytime!
