It’s an epic time for soaps, with recent events shining a light on the genre that is often treated like the redheaded stepchild of the entertainment industry. Soaps deserve all the love they are getting, as well as the amazing actors and actresses who work hard to entertain fans daily.

Key Takeaways

  • Here’s what has been said about soaps lately.
  • Ryan Gosling took soap love to a new level.
  • It’s about time the genre got this praise.

Soaps Are Finally Getting Their Props.

There’s no question that Beyond the Gates breathed new life into soaps with its 2025 debut. One year later, and an even bigger spotlight has been shone on the genre thanks to former soap stars and a Hollywood hunk.

All My Children alums Michael B. Jordan (Reggie) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Kendall) have been vocal recently about the ABC soap being an acting training ground. They each credited their co-stars as mentors and acknowledged the fast-paced filming as a great way for a young actor to learn.

It’s not just Hollywood stars who started on soaps that are lifting up the genre.  Last Week Tonight with John Oliver made a plea to soaps to ask for a cameo after he learned that Stephen A. Smith (Brick) has a guest-starring role on General Hospital.

Most recently, Ryan Gosling revealed his love for Days of our Lives and Deidre Hall (Marlena). The actor has admitted that Hall is his acting inspiration because of her iconic possession storyline back in the 1990s.

Gosling’s words have led to a back-and-forth with Hall, which has resulted in him accepting an invitation to visit the Peacock soaps Burbank studios.

All of these things are putting a spotlight on soaps, which honestly should have been there a long time ago. The hard work that soap stars put in daily should have been acknowledged all along. However, soaps get a bad rap when they shouldn’t.

Watching people like Oliver, Jordan, Gellar, and Gosling give soaps mad props is beyond cool. One soap fan agreed, writing on X, “As a longtime soap fan, the current buzz around Ryan Gosling Days and possibly John Oliver GH, Michael B. Jordan AMC winning an Oscar – just makes my heart happy. The genre that’s taken the most hits and criticism is getting long-overdue love.

It wasn’t that long ago that soaps were considered a dying genre. Soaps went from dying to being all the rage, and we think it’s about time!
