He may not be currently appearing on any soap but few are as beloved as soap vet Stephen Nichols and now he has something wonderful to celebrate. That’s because he was born on February 19, 1951, in Cincinnati, Ohio, which means that he’s turning 68 years old today!
Unlike many actors who come to Los Angeles seeking fame and fortune, Nichols was seeking spiritual enlightenment as a member of the Self Realization Fellowship Temple, and he studied yoga and lived as a monk in preparation to enter the ashram.
Lucky for us, he realized that wasn’t his path and turned to acting.
Nichols has portrayed Steve “Patch” Johnson on Days of Our Lives, Stefan Cassadine on General Hospital and Port Charles, Tucker McCall on The Young and the Restless, and Dr. Skyler Gates on Santa Barbara.
He’s also had small guest roles on primetime soaps Dynasty, Dallas, 2000 Malibu Road, Second Chances, Sisters, and Melrose Place.
Still, don’t think it’s all drama with the handsome actor. He’s appeared in the sitcoms Empty Next and The Nanny. Nichols also had a memorable turn — as himself — in the comedic movie Soap Dish with Sally Field, Whoopi Goldberg, and the late Carrie Fisher.
He’s not just an actor — Nichols has directed several theater productions including, Sixty Minutes from L.A., as well as a TV pilot presentation called Wild Horses.
He also wrote and directed a short film called Get the Dime, which starred Daniel Bess and Robert Picardo, just to name a few of his projects.
