Another wonderful soap opera vet has passed away this year. Daytime actress Miriam Colon, who portrayed Guiding Light’s Maria Santos in the late 90s and early 2000s passed away earlier this month at the age of 80.
Days of Our Lives actor, Jordi Vilasuso (Dario), who worked with Colon on Guiding Light portraying her grandson Tony, sent a beautiful Instagram tribute to the woman who was his Abuela on the show.
Before her stint on the sudser, Colon founded and directed the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater in New York City. The beautiful actress was also well known for her role as Tony Montana’s (Al Pacino) mother in 1983’s Scarface. She also appeared in many primetime shows such as Gunsmoke and Bonanza.
In 2014, President Barack Obama presented her with the National Medal of Arts.
Do you remember her on Guiding Light or in any of her other excellent TV and film roles?
