Some soaps have tons of characters and you can barely keep track while others seem rather small and everyone has already dated each other… but which works better?
You know how it goes. You’re watching your favorite show and you can’t believe you haven’t seen your favorite characters in forever. The action is busy featuring tons of other players, and the ones you like best never seem to make an appearance.
General Hospital (GH) fans of Franco (Roger Howarth) and Liz (Rebecca Herbst) are probably feeling that way. Days of Our Lives (DOOL) fans of Justin (Wally Kurth) and Adrienne (Judi Evans) certainly were until the two finally showed back up onscreen last week.
It’s always a happy day for fans of The Young and the Restless (YR) when Traci (Beth Maitland) arrives to help out with her mother Dina (Marla Adams), even if she doesn’t remember her, but where has Gloria (Judith Chapman) been? Is she hiding out with son Michael (Christian LeBlanc) and his wife Lauren (Tracey Bregman)?
Then there’s the opposite problem on The Bold and the Beautiful, where it seems like everyone has dated each other.
Los Angeles is a huge city but you’d never know it on that show which takes place there.
So which situation do fans prefer? Soap Hub asked if you prefer a big cast or a smaller cast and almost 17,000 weighed in on the subject!
Big Time
Big is where it’s at for 61% of you. If you were asked which characters needed to go, you couldn’t pick a single one: The more, the merrier. After all, you know if a show was going to cut someone out, it would end up being a beloved veteran who makes your show worth watching!
Large casts also help to keep the show interesting, because people can date each other… and they haven’t necessarily dated that person’s entire family already.
Nice Things In Small Packages
For 38% of you, a smaller cast means there isn’t any waste: You have no need to fast-forward anything because you love them all! You see your faves almost all the time, and that’s the way you like it.
