This past weekend, women across America (and even the world) began coming forward about sexual harassment and assault with two words on social media–Me Too.
Thanks to a tweet from Alyssa Milano, Hollywood starlets and A-listers to everyday women and, yes, your favorite soap stars, it’s easy to see that millions of women have put up with unwanted advancements and even assault for far too long.
What happens feels like a societal norm for women, but by speaking out, women are fighting back.
Yesterday, Linsey Godfrey told her harrowing story of sexual abuse as a child and teen, and other soap actress have used the Me Too hashtag to tell a story, or just say those two words to make all women feel they are not alone.
Cait Fairbanks also had a story to tell, with so many others. Below is just a sampling of your favorite daytimers coming forward with the truth, as well as a few men amazed at what they see and pledging their support.
I’ve written out #metoo 100 times and not posted. I feared people would ask me to relive moments I thought I had healed from. 1/6

That my word would not be enough and no one would believe me. That the shame I felt would bubble up to the surface. 2/6

That future employers would see me as a risk. That I was “just to sensitive” 3/6

NO ONE should feel frightened to go to work, walk outside or confide in a friend. 4/6

All I wanted to hear was that it wasn’t my fault and that someone believed me. 5/6

So to the many of women and men who have suffered the hand of perverted, weak and cruel. It wasn’t your fault and I believe you. 6/6

I’m saddened by the countess #MeToo tweets I’ve read from those sharing their stories of assault. Your bravery will make things better.❤️
