Although Linsey Godfrey broke her silence about sexual assault nearly a year ago, she has repeated her story… and this time explains why she didn’t report it.
With the #MeToo movement in full swing and America transfixed on the fate of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh with allegations of sexual assault surrounding him, women have been telling their survivor stories… and why they never told anyone until now.
Godfrey first came out with a harrowing tale of abuse at the hands of her stepfather when horrific stories of sexual abuse in Hollywood at the hands of Harvey Weinstein first came to light last fall.
Over the last 10 days, many Americans have wondered why women wait so long to report alleged crimes like this to authorities. On Tuesday afternoon, Godfrey took her turn with three emotional tweets.
“I didn’t report because he was my step dad & I didn’t think anyone would believe me,” Godfrey tweeted. “I didn’t report because I didn’t want to tear my family apart. Then I didn’t report because I was 15 & he was an older boy, I said “no” he was wealthy and I was not. I was scared so I said nothing.”
Last year Godfrey said this about her stepfather’s abuse and an incident with a teenage boy.
“I silenced myself because I was afraid of ruining other people’s lives,” she confided. “Now, at 29, I think about how ridiculous of a thought that is. How could I ever worry about them? They never worried what their actions might do to me!”
When Godfrey tweeted on Monday, she also thanked her fans for their kind words and for sticking by her, as many on social media have been blaming victims for being attacked or not believing their stories.
Godfrey is known for playing Caroline Spencer on The Bold and the Beautiful and will soon appear as Sarah Horton on Days of Our Lives. See her tweets below.
