Some soap opera characters get written off into oblivion and no one ever thinks twice about them.
Others leave a void the minute they walk out the door – or meet their maker. Every soap has a beloved hero, heroine, or scoundrel who’s gone but not forgotten. Here’s a list of four who need to be recast pronto!
Nikolas Cassadine, General Hospital
Laura’s (Genie Francis) eldest son has been seriously missed since Tyler Christopher and the GH brass failed to reach a contract extension in 2016. Nick Stabile was brought in to wrap up the story but was never a right fit as the princely Cassadine.
Since Nikolas’s death, there’s been a glaring hole in the show, starting with young Spencer (Nicholas Bechtel), who’s now lost both his parents. Plus, it’s decimated the Cassadine clan, leaving Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) as the last man standing. Recasting Christopher won’t be easy, but it needs to be done.
EJ DiMera, Days of Our Lives
Since learning EJ is still alive, viewers have been waiting for the dashing Brit to resurface. But will it ever happen? Since James Scott left the soap, EJ’s become the forgotten, rarely mentioned DiMera son. Instead, Chad (Billy Flynn) moved up the ranks to the top of the family’s helm.
That is, until Stefan (Tyler Christopher) arrived, manipulated a takeover, and dethroned him. An EJ return, right now, would add to the whole power struggle and put a brand, new spin on things.
Adam Newman, The Young and the Restless
The love of Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) life “died” for a second time, when Justin Hartley left Y&R for primetime. While she’s moved on with his brother Nick (Joshua Morrow), that relationship and the entire soap would be thrown into a tailspin if Adam were resurrected again.
There’s a list of unfinished business between Adam and his devious dad Victor (Eric Braeden), not to mention the fact that he’s Christian’s biological father. That eventual revelation will pack a much more potent punch if Adam’s on the scene when it happens.
Thomas Forrester, The Bold and the Beautiful
Pierson Fodé’s decision to leave B&B came just as Thomas was coming into his own, both personally and professionally. After being passed over as CEO of Forrester Creations, he boldly joined his girlfriend Sally Spectra’s (Courtney Hope) fashion house.
The stage was set for some serious competition between him and his designer dad Ridge (Thorsten Kaye). Sadly, it never came to pass when Fodé gave notice — Thomas broke up with Sally and left town. A recast could reignite things, and with Sally now mad for Liam (Scott Clifton), it adds a whole other dimension to the plot.
