Soap Ratings Race: Good Week for One Soap, Mixed Week for Others

After weeks of stagnant soap ratings, “The Young and the Restless” saw an increase all around for the week ending June 3

The perpetually number one-rated soap pulled in 4,762,000 total viewers, up 116,000 from the week before. However, it was down 25,000 from the same time last year. While Y&R was also down from the year before in each female demographic breakdown, it saw increased numbers from the week before. For example, for women both 18-49 and 18-34, Y&R pulled in 37,000 more viewers than the previous week. But, it lost 34,000 viewers in the 18-49 demo and 56,000 in the 18-34.

Sister soap “The Bold and the Beautiful” remained number two with 3,733,000 total viewers and pulled in 28,000 more from the week before. However, it lost 25,000 from the previous year and also lost viewers in each key female demographic.

“General Hospital” and “Days of Our Lives” remained number three and number four, respectively. GH pulled in 2,798,000 viewers, down 88,000 from the week before, but up 98,000 from the previous year. GH also lost viewers in all female demos.

DAYS had an abbreviated week, airing only two episodes due to NBC’s French Open coverage, but it pulled in a total of 2,093,000 overall viewers, up 12,000 from the week before, but down 247,000 from the year before, which was the biggest soap loss overall. DAYS was also up from the previous week in the key demos, but down by six figures from the same time last year.
