The word “frenemy” has become pretty popular these days, on and off soap operas.

But the ones we have on soaps are legendary or perhaps legends-in-the-making. You love watching them snipe at each other and then suddenly something happens and then they have to pull together – melting your heart.

Here are some of Soap Hub’s favorites. Let us know if you agree in the comments section.

The Young and the Restless
Genoa City had no better rivals than Katherine Chancellor and Jill Foster (Jess Walton). As happens often, they started off friendly enough until Jill sunk her teeth into Kay’s husband Phillip – and even got pregnant.

Of course the raging twosome had no idea back then they would turn out to be mother and daughter. Over the years they’ve had some fights for the record books but their mutual love for Jill’s son Phillip was the first block these two had from which to build a beautiful relationship.

General Hospital
Alan Quartermaine was forced to just watch as his sister Tracy (Jane Elliot) and his wife Monica went for each other’s throats practically from the day they met. Tracy was always the jealous type and has never enjoyed sharing.

Nor does she play well with others. But now these two have lost so many they loved that the shared loss has seemingly mellowed their antagonism. When either is sick, there is no greater force in their corner.

These two have come a long way over the years, and while the quips keep coming, underneath there is deep affection.

Days of Our Lives
Kate (Lauren Koslow) rarely has approved of any woman who wanted one of her sons and it was obvious things weren’t going to be any different when Lucas chose Adrienne as the woman for him.

Kate knew all about Justin and Adrienne’s love and she never thought the woman was capable of being there for her son, nor was he worthy. And she let her know – time and time again.

But as a cancer survivor, when she heard that Adrienne was afflicted with the disease, Kate stepped up and has been there for her former nemesis every step of the way.

The Bold and the Beautiful
There was no greater force in Los Angeles than Stephanie Forrester, whose love for her son Ridge bordered on pathological. Enter young Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang), the daughter of the only woman, Beth Logan, who had ever been Stephanie’s competition (up until that point) for Eric’s love.

There was no way she considered Brooke good enough for her son, and Stephanie made it her mission in life to make Brooke’s life miserable.

Their battles were legendary, but in the process, Brooke did the impossible – and won Stephanie’s respect and love. In the end, it was Brooke who helped Stephanie and was there for her until the bitter end.
