The words soap-opera are often used interchangeably with daytime drama. But there is really nothing about soaps that requires them airing while the sun is out. Especially these days, when on-demand is the way most kids grow up watching.
If your soaps were suddenly not exclusively love in the afternoon, would you still watch? How almost 2000 viewers voted:
Time Doesn’t Matter
VCRs have been a thing for over 40 years now, followed by DVRs and a whole host of other time-shifting technologies.
Fans have been watching soaps at their convenience for two generations now, and 86% of you expect no changes to your lifestyles if soaps suddenly took their place alongside The Big Bang Theory and The Voice. (And let’s not even talk about how prime-time soaps have been airing since Peyton Place in the 60s.)
In fact, it would even make our lives easier, no back episodes piling up. Soaps can become a pre-bed habit like The Tonight Show or the local news.
Your family will have to let you watch, they can’t claim that it’s recorded, you can watch anytime! Let them find another TV for their shows, your stories are one – in prime-time!
Tradition? Tradition!
A smaller 14% needs their soaps to stay where they are. So much has changed – only four shows are left, for Pete’s sake! – at least the time slot can remain the same.
Also, soaps look… different when aired in prime-time, against all the other shows. Soaps are videotaped in flat lighting on cardboard sets.
They tend to look fake when compared to the filmed on location action of a Blacklist or NCIS. Grey’s Anatomy makes General Hospital seem cheap, and can you imagine Sonny coming face to face with a real mobster from The Sopranos? Even Tom Sellek’s Blue Blood’s police chief seems more menacing! (And equally dimpled.)
The last four remaining sudsers air weekdays. Check your local listing for air times.
