The soap opera ratings race for the week ending August 4 saw some surprise good news and surprise bad news for your favorite daytime dramas.

The Young and the Restless
While The Young and the Restless (YR) remained on top of the ratings heap, it lost viewers all around. Y&R pulled in 4,234,000 viewers on average overall, down 163,000 from the week before and 353,000 from the year before.

The soap also lost viewers from the previous week and previous year in all three key female demographics, tying its all-time low with women 18-49.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) also didn’t fare well. It garnered 3,321,000 viewers on average overall, down 27,000 from the week before and 320,000 from the same time last year.

B&B also tied its all-time low with women 18-49, but did gain a mere 3,000 from the week before with women 18-34.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives (DOOL), the soap whose ratings took a huge hit over the last year and whose new head writer brings great expectations, seems to finally be on the rise.

It pulled in 2,054,000 viewers on average overall, up 78,000 from the week before, but down 129,000 from the year before. It might still have a ways to go in its recovery, but perhaps it’s on its way. DAYS also gained viewers from the week before in all three female demos.

General Hospital
General Hospital (GH) also saw a better week, garnering 2,526,000 viewers on average overall, up 90,000 from the previous week, yet down 59,000 from the same time last year.

The bad news is like Y&R and B&B, it tied its all-time low with women 18-49, and also lost viewers in the other female demos.
