Soap Opera Ratings Race: Was Sweeps Month A BOMB?

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending November 16 shows November sweeps NOT off to a roaring start for the four remaining daytime dramas.

The Young and the Restless
The perpetually number-one ranked The Young and the Restless kept its perch and was the only soap to make any gains.

Y&R garnered 4,191,000 viewers on average overall, up 65,000 from the week before, but down a whopping 360,000 from the year before.

Also, the soap only made gains from the prior week in one female demographic, with women 25-54.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful pulled in 3,319,000 viewers on average overall, down 28,000 from the previous week and 250,000 from the previous year.

B&B also lost viewers from the week before and year before in all three female demos.

General Hospital
General Hospital, which has had up and down weeks (but mainly down) this year, garnered 2,343,000 viewers on average overall, down 39,000 from the week before and 380,000 from the year before.

However, GH did overtake B&B with women 18-49, claiming the number two spot and gaining 41,000 viewers from the previous week. The 55-year-old soap also made gains from the prior week with women 25-54.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives, which remains the last ranked soap, has seen the most improvement this year. It also saw the least damage out of the three soaps that lost viewers all around.

DAYS pulled in 2,200,000 viewers on average overall, down 55,000 from the prior week and 59,000 from the prior year.

However, DAYS did make gains from the previous week with women 18-49 and 25-54.
