Soap Opera Ratings Race: Soaps End The Year On A VERY High Note

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending December 29 see soaps closing out the year with some great improvements across the board.

The Young and the Restless
The Young and the Restless (YR), which had a very difficult fall with numbers fluctuating up and down, made great gains at the close of 2017.

The perpetually number one rated soap garnered 4,800,000 viewers on average overall, up 469,000 from the week before and 50,000 from the week before.

Y&R also made gains in all three female demographics from the previous week, but lost viewers from the previous year. However, it’s overall numbers were the highest they’ve been since Mal Young took over as both head writer and executive producer.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) also did well compared to the previous week. It pulled in 3,771,000 viewers on average overall, up 265,000 from the prior week, yet down 267,000 from the previous year.

B&B made gains from the week before with women 18-49 and 25-54 from the week before, but lost in all three demos from the year before.

General Hospital
General Hospital (GH) also finished the year in great shape, garnering 2,753,000 viewers on average overall, up 76,000 from the week before and 218,000 from the year before.

GH remained at number two with women 18-49 and 18-34, making gains from the previous week and previous year. It also made gains from the prior week and year with women 25-54.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives (DOOL) also finished the year in better shape than it was in six months ago, pulling in 2,496,000 viewers on average overall, up 172,000 from the week before, but down 51,000 from the same time last year.

DAYS did not fare as well in the demographics, only making small gains from the previous week with women 18-49 and 25-54.
