Soap Opera Ratings Race: All Soaps Back In Free Fall

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending April 13 show numbers dropping for all four soaps, highlighting the dangers for fictional daytime drama when there’s real-life daytime drama on a daily basis.

The Young and the Restless
While The Young and the Restless (YR) remained in first place pulling in 4,450,000 viewers on average overall, it lost 117,000 from the week before and 495,000 from the year before.

Y&R also lost viewers from the previous week and previous year in all four female demographic categories.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) also saw dramatic loss, garnering 3,446,000 viewers overall on average, but losing 94,000 from the week before and a whopping 505,000 from the year before.

B&B also hit a new low for women 18-49, losing 34,000 viewers from the previous week in this category and 130,000 from the previous year.

General Hospital
General Hospital (GH) ranked third as always, pulling in 2,402,000 viewers on average overall, down 172,000 from the week before and 414,000 from the year before.

Like Y&R and B&B, GH also lost viewers all around in the key female demographics.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives (DOOL) may have ranked in last place as per usual, but it lost the least number of viewers overall. DAYS garnered 2,048,000 viewers on average, down just 44,000 from the previous week and 190,000 from the same time last year.

DAYS even made gains with women 18-49, where it earned 11,000 more viewers than the week prior.
