Soap Opera Ratings Race: Shocking News For One Soap!

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending October 26 sees three out of four soaps making gains, and another just sliding further into the basement.

General Hospital
General Hospital was the only soap to make no gains from both the week and year before. The 55-year-old drama garnered 2,281,000 viewers on average overall, down 57,000 from the week before and a whopping 467,000 from the year before.

GH also dropped to last place in two of the three female demographics, but still lost viewers in all of them.

Many fans have been put off with the disjointed stories that are dropped and then picked up again months later, as well as the focus on new characters rather than vets.

The Bold and the Beautiful
The Bold and the Beautiful saw the most improvement from the prior week. It pulled in 3,368,000 viewers on average overall, up 129,000 from the previous week but down 206,000 from the previous year.

B&B also made gains from the prior week in all three female demos. With women 18-34, it made gains all around.

The Young and the Restless
Sister soap The Young and the Restless remained in first place as it has now for decades, garnering 4,226,000 viewers on average overall, up 114,000 from the week before but down 233,000 from the year before.

The soap also made gains from the week before with women 18-49 and 25-54.

The soap seemed to be in free fall parts of this year, but viewers clearly tuned in to see those Abbott flashbacks and learn just how the soap planned to write out Eileen Davidson in an explosive week between Ashley and Jack.

Days of Our Lives
Finally, Days of Our Lives continued to make small improvements as it has all year. It pulled in 2,244,000 viewers on average overall, up 56,000 from the prior week, but down 54,000 from the same time last year.

It also made gains from the week before in all three female demos, overtaking GH for the number three spot in two categories.
