The soap opera ratings race for the week ending May 4 offers quite the surprise as the the third and fourth place soap switch places.
Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives (DOOL) had quite a week as Chad finally discovered what was going on with his wife all these months.
The 52-year-old soap moved from fourth place out of four soaps to third, garnering 2,301,000 viewers on average overall, up 93,000 from the week before and 229,000 from the year before.
In fact, DAYS was the only soap to make any overall gains from both the previous week and previous year.
General Hospital
Meanwhile, General Hospital (GH) has moved down to last place in the ratings, just after celebrating its 55th anniversary. Fans have been very vocal about their distaste for the Henrik story, which has taken over nearly every character’s lives and given Anna an inconceivable child with Cesar Faison.
GH pulled in 2,288,000 viewers on average overall, down 56,000 from the prior week and 162,000 from the prior year. There was some good news for the soap as it placed second with women 18-34 and made slight gains in the other female demographics.
The Young and the Restless
The Young and the Restless (YR) held onto the number one spot as always, garnering 4,089,000 viewers on average overall, down 174,000 from the week before and 75,000 from the year before.
Y&R had an especially hard week as it also saw losses in all three coveted female demographics.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) pulled in 3,227,000 viewers on average overall, down 90,000 from the previous week and 129,000 from the previous year.
However, the soap saw some good news as it jumped to number one with women 18-34.
