Soap Opera Ratings Race: One Soap SOARS While Others Stay Stagnant

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending April 6 show one soap continuing its journey back to life, while its three counterparts post mixed numbers.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives (DOOL) seemed to be on its last legs just a year ago, but six months ago it began its upswing that just isn’t stopping.

The 52-year-old soap remained in last place out of four soaps, but it made the most gains. DAYS garnered 2,253,000 viewers on average overall, up 51,000 from the week before and 156,000 from the year before.

DAYS also made gains in all three female demographics from both the previous week and previous year.

The Bold and the Beautiful
In contrast, The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) had the worst week of all four soaps compared the prior week and prior year, as it was the only show not to make any gains at all.

B&B pulled in 3,552,000 viewers on average overall, down 23,000 from the week before and 4,000 from the year before. It remained in third place with women 18-49, but it did make slight gains in all three demos from the previous week.

The Young and the Restless
Sister soap The Young and the Restless remained in first place, garnering 4,419,000 viewers on average overall, up 8,000 from the week before, but down 147,000 from the same time last year.

Y&R also made gains from the prior week with women 18-49 and 25-54.

General Hospital
General Hospital (GH) stayed in its third place perch, pulling in 2,516,000 viewers on average overall, up 7,000 from the previous week, but down 58,000 from the previous year.

GH remained in second place with women 18-49, making slight gains from the week before. It also made gains from the prior week with women 25-54.
