The soap opera ratings race for the week ending June 8th show two soaps gaining new life, while the other two falter.
Days of Our Lives (DOOL) has been the little soap that could since Ron Carlivati’s writing started airing late last summer. Many fans feel the soap has an entirely new feel and a renewed energy and it’s certainly reflecting in the ratings.
DAYS remained in fourth place, but garnered 2,331,000 viewers on average overall, up 48,000 from the week before and a whopping 203,000 from the same time last year. The 52-year-old soap also made gains from both the week and year before with women 18-49 and 25-54.
The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) was the only other soap to see numbers improve from both the previous week and previous year. Perhaps Steffy giving birth and her reunion with Liam brought out some lost fans.
B&B pulled in 3,503,000 viewers on average overall, up 3,000 from the prior week and 87,000 from the prior year. The soap also made gains from the previous week in all three coveted female demographics.
Sister soap The Young and the Restless kept its number one ranking as per usual, garnering 4,159,000 viewers on average overall, down 10,000 from the previous week and 91,000 from the previous year. However, like B&B, Y&R did see improved numbers from the week before in the female demos.
Finally, General Hospital (GH) continues to falter as fans become bored with newer characters like Nelle and Peter taking over almost all stories, but vets being left out. (Fans are also waiting for something to happen in the Jason/Sam/Drew non-triangle.)
GH pulled in 2,486,000 viewers on average overall, down 19,000 from the week before and 62,000 from the week before. It’s overall viewership is relatively close to DAYS’, making many wonder if GH will drop to number four again like it did in the spring. At least GH did see improvements from the prior week in all three female demos.
