Soap Opera Ratings Race: Mixed Numbers As Pre-Emptions Prevail

The soap opera ratings race shows mixed numbers for all four soaps, as the real-life drama in Washington, D.C. continues to dominate daytime.

For the week ending February 17, President Trump’s epic press conference–which pre-empted several shows–could rival any soap for drama and intrigue.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Two soaps had improved numbers overall from the previous week. The Bold and the Beautiful pulled in 3,779,000 viewers on average overall, up 122,000 from the week before, but down 16,000 from the year before. B&B also made gains in all three female demographics.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives was the second soap to show improved numbers over the previous week. It garnered 2,263,000 viewers on average, up 61,000 from the week before, but down 171,000 from the year before. DAYS also made gains from the previous week with women 18-34.

The Young and the Restless
The Young and the Restless remained number one, but took hits everywhere, even tying its low with women 18-49.

It pulled in 4,423,000 viewers overall, down 121,000 from the week before, as well as 565,000 from the same time last year. The only area in which Y&R made any improvement was with women 18-34, where it was up 14,000 from the week before.

General Hospital
General Hospital kept its third place ranking, pulling in 2,541,000 viewers overall, down 96,000 from the previous week and 401,000 from the previous year.

The only category in which GH made gains was with females 18-34, where it saw an increase of 1,000 viewers from the week before.
