Soap Opera Ratings Race: Great News For One Soap, Mixed For Others

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending January 12 show one soap on the rise, and other shows’ numbers both up and down.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives remains in last place of four soaps but is the only soap to show improvements all around. It garnered 2,479,000 viewers on average overall, up 12,000 from the week before and 127,000 from the year before.

DAYS also made gains from the prior week in two of the three female demographics, up 17,000 with women 18-49, and 23,000 with women 25-54.

The Young and the Restless
The number one ranked The Young and the Restless is no longer in free fall, pulling in 4,810,000 viewers on average overall, down 13,000 from the previous week, but up 123,000 from the previous year.

However, Y&R only made gains from the previous week with women 25-54 and lost viewers from the prior week and prior year in the other female demos.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful didn’t have an abysmal week, but it didn’t have a fantastic week either. It garnered 3,935,000 viewers on average overall, down 8,000 from the previous week, but up 144,000 from the year before.

B&B did not fair well in the demographics at all, falling to third place in two out of the three, and losing viewers from both the prior week and prior year.

General Hospital
General Hospital also made decent gains from the previous year. It garnered 2,815,000 viewers on average overall, down 74,000 from the week before, but up 162,000 from the year before.

It ranked number two with women 18-49 and 18-34, but only made gains from the previous week in the 18-34 category.
