Soap Opera Ratings Race: GREAT News For One Beloved Soap

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending October 19 shows that one soap just keeps defying the odds as others falter.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives seems to be the soap to watch out for. While it remains ranked number four out of four remaining soaps, it seems to be the only one that’s seen more improvements than not over the last year.

Once again, DAYS was the only soap to gain viewers (though modestly) both from the previous week and year. It garnered 2,188,000 viewers on average overall, up 50,000 from the week before and 46,000 from the year before.

The soap also made gains from the prior week in all three female demographics.

The Young and the Restless
While The Young and the Restless kept its first-place ranking, viewers are still continuing to flee the 45-year-old soap.

Y&R pulled in 4,112,000 viewers on average overall, down 102,000 from the previous week and a whopping 368,000 from the same time last year.

The soap also lost viewers from the week before and year before in all three women’s demos.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful didn’t fare much better. B&B garnered 3,239,000 viewers on average overall, down 55,000 from the week before and 297,000 from the year before.

The only place where B&B made any gains at all was from the prior week with women 25-54.

General Hospital
General Hospital, which has been losing viewers most of the year, but had a surprise upswing last week is back down.

GH pulled in 2,338,000 viewers on average overall, down 151,000 from the prior week and 194,000 from the prior year.

However, GH had a gain of 8,000 from the week before with women 18-49, which put it in second place, above B&B in that demo. It also gained viewers from the previous week with women 25-54.
