Soap Opera Ratings Race: GREAT News For All Four Soaps

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending September 7 show all four daytime dramas picking up speed after a dismal few weeks.

General Hospital
Third-ranked General Hospital saw the most improvement over the previous week, but this was an unusual situation. The week prior GH only showed two new episodes and re-ran Nathan’s death and funeral the rest of the week and numbers reflected this.

This week, numbers reflected people flocking back for more new story as GH garnered 2,319,000 viewers on average overall, up a whopping 590,000 from the week before, yet down a slight 62,000 from the year before.

GH also made gains from the previous week in all three female demographics, but lost ground compared to the same time last year.

Days of Our Lives
Although Days of Our Lives made the least gains from the previous week, it’s still the only soap that has consistently seen higher numbers from week to week most of this year.

DAYS pulled in 2,162,000 viewers on average overall, up 2,000 from the prior week, but down  38,000 from the prior year.

However, DAYS only made gains from the previous week with women 18-49, and lost ground with the demographics in every other category.

The Young and the Restless
Number one-rated The Young and the Restless garnered 4,066,000 viewers on average overall, up 139,000 from the week before and down 346,000 from the year before.

Y&R also saw better numbers from the previous week in all three female demos but saw lower numbers from the prior year.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful pulled in 3,270,000 viewers on average overall, up 16,000 from the previous week, but down 227,000 from the same time last year.

B&B lost ground all around with women 18-49, but saw improvements all around with women 18-34. It made a slight gain from the week before with women 25-54.
