Every once in a while Days of Our Lives (DOOL) gets some good news in the soap opera ratings race and the week ending June 9 was one of them.
Granted, the soap was pre-empted on Thursday and Friday due to French Open tennis, so perhaps diehard fans wanted to get as much Salem time in as they could earlier in the week.
Days of Our Lives
DAYS pulled in 2,127,000 viewers overall, up 46,000 from the week before and steady from the year before, meaning it had the exact same audience size this time last year.
The 51-year-old soap even made gains in each key female demographic from the previous week, but lost viewers in the demos from the previous years.
The Bold and the Beautiful
The Bold and the Beautiful, which also saw a Thursday pre-emption (along with Y&R) due to former FBI Director James Comey’s Senate testimony on Thursday, was the only other soap to make gains.
B&B garnered 3,407,000 million viewers on average overall, gaining a whopping 206,000 viewers from the week before, while still losing 250,000 from the year before. However, we suspect the arrival of Sheila helped boost the soaps’ numbers.
Fans didn’t know who was coming. They just knew it was going to be quite the shock and it was when Kimberlin Brown made her triumphant return to daytime on Friday.
The Young and the Restless
Sister soap The Young and the Restless remained at number one, pulling in 4,1330,000 viewers on average overall, down 30,000 from the week before and a whopping 559,000 from the same time last year.
Y&R also lost ground in all female demos, except women 25-54, in which it gained a mere 23,000 viewers from the previous week.
General Hospital
General Hospital garnered 2,548,000 viewers on average overall, down 5,000 from the week before, but up 26,000 from the previous year. GH also gained viewers from the week before in all three female demos, giving it a so-so week.
