The soap opera ratings race for the week ending September 22 show a surge for one soap and mixed numbers for others.
General Hospital
Perhaps Steve Burton’s return will have a longterm effect for the good on General Hospital, or perhaps this is a one-time ratings jump. The soap garnered 2,538,000 viewers on average overall, up 109,000 from the week before, but down 173,000 from the year before.
That was the biggest jump out of all four soaps. GH also made gains in all three female demos from the previous week, and ranked number two for women 18-49.
The Young and the Restless
The only other soap to make any gains from the prior week was The Young and the Restless, which as per usual, maintained its number one ranking. Y&R pulled in 4,412,000 viewers on average overall, up 58,000 from the week before, yet down 376,000 from the year before.
Like GH, it also made gains in all three female demos from the previous week.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful remained in second place, but lost viewers all around. It pulled in 3,577,000 viewers on average overall, down 5,000 from the previous week and 123,000 from the previous year.
However, B&B did see gains from the prior week in the three coveted female demos.
Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives had been on an upswing that seems to have ended. It garnered 2,087,000 viewers on average overall, down 66,000 from the prior week and 110,000 from the same time last year.
The only place DAYS made any gains was from the week before with women 18-34, where it was up by 5,000.
