The soap opera ratings race for the week ending October 27 saw two fledging soaps make HUGE gains.
While both General Hospital (GH) and Days of Our Lives (DOOL) remained in their typical third and fourth place spots out of four daytime soaps, their numbers saw significant increases. Both were the only two shows to make gains over the prior week and year.
General Hospital
GH pulled in 2,750,000 viewers on average overall, up 219,000 from the week before and 112,000 from the year before. The soap kept its number two spot with women 18-49 and was up from the week before in that demo.
It was also up from both the prior week and prior year with women 25-54, where it took over the number two spot from The Bold and the Beautiful (BB).
Days of Our Lives
DAYS garnered 2,298,000 viewers on average overall, up 156,000 from the previous week and 116,000 from the previous year.
The soap did not fare as well in the female demographics, but did make gains from the week before with women 18-49 and 25-54.
The Young and the Restless
The Young and the Restless (YR) remained in first place as always, pulling in 4,456,000 viewers on average overall, down 23,000 from the week before and 170,000 from the year before. In fact, it was the only soap to lose numbers from the previous week and year.
Y&R also didn’t fare well in the coveted female demos, only making a slight increase of 2,000 from the week before with women 18-34.
The Bold and the Beauitful
Sister soap B&B remained in second place, garnering 3,562,000 viewers on average overall, up 32,000 from the prior week, yet down 176,000 from the prior year.
In fact, B&B also fared worst in the three female demographics, losing numbers from the week and year before all around.
