In the soap opera ratings race for the week ending January 20, General Hospital showed the largest gains for the week despite being pre-empted twice for presidential news.
General Hospital
The perpetually third place GH garnered 2,764,000 on average overall, with a whopping gain of 111,000 from the week before, despite a 367,000 loss from the year before.
While that is a stark difference from last year, it was the only soap that came close to making such gains from one week to the next. GH also added viewers from the week before in all three key female demographics.
The Young and the Restless
While The Young and the Restless retained its number one spot, it saw the most losses of the four soaps. Y&R pulled in 4,443,000 viewers overall, down 23,000 from the week before, and a staggering 645,000 from the same time last year. It also lost viewers from the year before in all female demos, but it made slight gains with women 18-34 and 25-54.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful remained in second place and was the only soap besides General Hospital to make gains from the previous week.
It garnered 3,861,000 viewers, up 78,000 from the week before, but down 202,000 from the year before. B&B lost viewers in all the demos, except women 25-54 where it made a gain of 30,000 from the previous week.
Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives retained its fourth place spot, pulling in 2,292,000 viewers from on average, down 59,000 from the previous week and 580,000 from the same time last year. Women 18-34 was the only demo in which DAYS made gains, up just 2,000 viewers from the week before.
