The soap opera ratings race for the week ending May 12 brings extra bad news for Days of Our Lives (DOOL) and disheartening news for General Hospital (GH).
Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives hit its worst overall numbers ever, pulling in just 1,943,000 viewers on average, down 125,000 from the week before and 282,000 from the year before.
This beats its last lowest overall numbers from last summer, making many wonder if Ron Carlivati’s writing will bring the struggling soap its last gasps of breath. DAYS also beat its lowest numbers in the 18-49 women’s demo.
General Hospital
While General Hospital did not beat its lowest overall numbers, coming in at number three of four soaps and pulling in 2,325,000 viewers, it did set a record for its lowest ratings in the 18-49 female demographic.
The Young and the Restless
The Young and the Restless (YR) maintained its number one perch as it has for decades, garnering 4,168,000 viewers overall, up a mere 3,000 from the week before, but down a whopping 554,000 from the same time last year.
Y&R also lost viewers or stayed the same in all female demographics, except women 25-54, where it gained 21,000 from the previous week.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) made the most improvement of all four soaps, pulling in 3,457,000 viewers on average overall, up 110,000 from the previous week, yet down 238,000 from the previous year.
B&B also made gains from the week before with women 18-49 and 25-54.
