Soap Opera Ratings Race: FINALLY!!! GOOD News With ALL Soaps On An Uptick

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending May 26 show that, at least for one weeks, soaps have come out of their seemingly-endless downward spiral.

All four daytime dramas were up in total viewers, with The Young and the Restless (YR) picking up the most gains from the previous week. The genre seems to still be catching up with last year’s numbers–except, surprisingly, Days of Our Lives (DOOL).

The Young and the Restless
Y&R retained its number one spot and pulled in 4,246,000 viewers on average overall, up 166,000 from the week before, but still down 360,000 from the year before.

The soap gained viewers from the week before in all three female demographics, except women 18-49, where it was down by 5,000.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful garnered 3,437,000 viewers on average overall, up 124,000 from the prior week, but down 268,000 from the prior year.

B&B also made gains from the week before in all three key women’s demos.

Days of Our Lives
DAYS shocked us all with gains overall from both the week before and year before. It inched above the two million mark for the first time in weeks.

The 51-year-old soap pulled in 2,099,000 viewers on average overall, up 134,000 from the week before and 18,000 from the same time last year.

General Hospital
Third-place-ranked General Hospital (GH) did the worst in terms of gains and losses, garnering 2,462,000 viewers on average overall, up 86,000 from the previous week, but down a whopping 424,000 from the previous year.

The soap had its best ratings on Friday when Carly and Sonny finally confronted Ava about her pill switcheroo.
