Soap Opera Ratings: BIG Week For General Hospital, Mixed Week For Others

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending June 29th show General Hospital making its way out of its recent free fall and showing signs of life.

General Hospital
The 55-year-old soap had been hemorrhaging viewers for weeks, but has finally made up some ground again as Chloe Lanier’s exit nears and Nelle’s reign of terror reaches a climax. Fans certainly want to see how it ends for this character.

GH garnered 2,500,000 fans on average overall, up 68,000 from the week before and 94,000 from the year before. It was the only soap to make improvements from both the previous week and year.

The soap also ranked at number two with women 18-34, although it also hit a new low in that demo. However, it wasn’t the only soap to hit a new low there. The only demo in which GH showed improvement was with women 18-49, where it was up from the prior week.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives, which had been making gains consistently over the past few months, faltered a bit towards the end of June. It pulled in 2,082,000 viewers on average overall, down 163,000 from the week before, but up a modest 25,000 from the year before.

In the demos, DAYS only made gains from the year before with women 18-34.

The Young and the Restless
The Young and the Restless saw an ok week, garnering 4,137,000 viewers on average overall, up 16,000 from the previous week, but down 112,000 from the previous year.

Y&R also lost ground from the prior week and year in all three female demographics.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful performed the worst of all four soaps in terms of improvements. It pulled in 3,339,000 viewers on average overall, down 144,000 from the prior week and 68,000 from the prior year.

Like Y&R, B&B also lost ground all around in the three women’s demos.
