The soap opera ratings race for the week ending August 25 indicate that good things come to those who wait–and that sometimes reboots really do work.
Days of Our Lives
Days of our Lives (DOOL), which was hemorrhaging viewers earlier this year, saw one its biggest overall improvements in quite a long time. DAYS had been slowly creeping up overall since new Head Writer Ron Carlivati’s scrips started airing, but it took a relatively huge jump this time around.
DAYS pulled in 2,131,000 viewers on average overall, up a healthy 117,000 from the week before, but still down 18,000 from the year before. Still, it looks like it may be on the right track and we’ll see what the next few weeks bring.
DAYS also gained with women 18-49 and 25-54 from the previous week, and remained the same with women 18-34.
The Young and the Restless
The only other soap to make overall gains from the prior week was the perpetually-number one The Young and the Restless (YR), which garnered 4,363,000 viewers, up 197,000 from the previous week but down 306,000 from the same time last year.
Unlike DAYS, the only place Y&R made any demographic improvements was with women 35-54, where it was up from the week before by a mere 5,000.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and The Beautiful (BB) pulled in 3,414,000 viewers on average overall, down 50,000 from the prior week, but also down a whopping 317,000 from the prior year.
B&B was also down in all three female demos, hitting a new low with women 18-49 for the fourth straight week.
General Hospital
General Hospital (GH) also didn’t fare very well, garnering 2,301,000 viewers on average overall, down 68,000 from the week before and 221,000 from the year before.
GH was also down in all three female demos, and hit a new low with women 18-49 for the 17th straight week.
