Soap Opera Legend Jed Allen Dead At 84

Jed Allan, the actor who came to soap fame in the 1970s as attorney Don Craig on Days of Our Lives, passed away late Saturday night.

Allan’s son, Rick Brown, posted the sad news on The Official Jed Allan Facebook page.

“So sorry to post the very sad news of my fathers passing tonight. He died peacefully and was surrounded by his family and loved so much by us and so many others.
Thank you for all who are part of this wonderful tribute to my dad on Facebook.”

The devastating news traveled across social media fast, as Allan made soaps his home for decades.

In addition to playing Don, Marlena’s first love and husband on DAYS, Allan also thrilled soap audiences in the 1980s and early 1990s as patriarch and mogul C.C. Capwell on NBC’s now-defunct Santa Barbara.

The actor remained in SB from 1986 till the show left the airwaves in 1993. He later went on to play a third incarnation of Edward Quartermaine on General Hospital from 2004-2006.

Allan also came to primetime soap fame on Beverley Hills, 90210 as Rush Sanders, Steve Sanders’ father from 1994-1999.

Allan’s SB co-star, A Martinez, wrote this of the actor’s passing on his own Facebook page.

“Jed Allen walked on today. Along the way in his fantastic acting career, he played Eden’s father –– CC Capwell –– on Santa Barbara. His gift was a formidable blend of professionalism and inspiration –– a perennial rock in his preparation and a force of nature once the cameras rolled.

“He was also generous and kind and funny and fierce, and God knows he was beloved by those lucky enough to share a stage with him. I count it one of the great blessings of my career that I got to be one of those and one of the great blessings of my life that I got to be his friend.”
