It’s no secret that Nathan Fillion got his start on One Life To Live, and now the actor is reminiscing about his time in Llanview along with other soap alums.
Sudsy Beginnings
During a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, Fillion (ex-Joey, OLTL) sat down with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, who both starred on All My Children as supercouple Hayley and Mateo. This interview brought Fillion back to his old stomping grounds of New York City, where OLTL was filmed for the entirety of its run on ABC.
Their reunion immediately brought up the topic of soap operas, with Consuelos noting Fillion’s run in daytime. “I’m fond of saying I was the best Joey ever… there was only about 24 of us,” Fillion quipped, referring to his three-year stint as Joey Buchanan from 1994-1997.
The actor went on to reveal that Bob Woods (ex-Bo, OLTL — who was recently seen at another former OLTL cast member’s wedding!) played a major role in his career today. “I didn’t have anybody in my life who was involved in the entertainment industry in any way. And on One Life To Live, I had 30 mentors,” Fillion shared. “Bob Woods said, ‘Hey, man, you’ve got to go. Pack up your bags, go to LA, and this is what you’re going to do, and this is what they’re going to say, and this is how you’re going to answer.’ And everything panned out exactly how he said it would.”
An Incredible Place
The trio of former soap stars went on to discuss their disappointment about the soap genre disappearing, Ripa noting that she wants there to be more soaps. “I am so sad that it is a dying medium, I really am,” Fillion admitted. “Incredible place to really learn the craft at a breakneck pace.”
While CBS recently premiered a brand new soap opera, Beyond The Gates, the last one standing on ABC is General Hospital. In addition, Lifetime is said to be working on reboot movies centered around AMC.
