Throughout soap opera history there are leading men destined to be with one particular leading lady — no matter how many other significant lovers and mates they may have. One such man is Josh Lewis (played by Robert Newman) on Guiding Light. While he was always destined to be with Reva, there were other loves along the way.
A Guiding Light Original
Bad boy Josh Lewis came to Springfield from Tulsa and flirted with Hilary Bauer, Nola Reardon, and Nola’s pal Gracie. He fell for married model Morgan Richards Nelson and manipulated his way into Morgan’s bed, ending her marriage to Kelly. Despite Josh’s dalliance with Ross’s wife, Carrie (when she was in an altered state), Ross agreed to form an oil company with him and Amanda Spaulding — LTA (The Three Amigos!)
“Here She Is Folks! Reva! Shayne! Lewis!”
But Josh would soon meet his match (or rather, we’d learn he grew up with her) when fiery Reva Shayne, the ex of Josh’s brother Billy, came to town on Alan Spaulding’s payroll. Josh and Reva reconnected, but he was paralyzed in a car wreck after he found out Reva wed his father H.B. on the rebound. Josh was, understandably, bitter over his circumstance.
As fate would have it, Bert Bauer, the heart of Springfield, was in a wheelchair, too, having recently lost a leg below the knee to a blood clot. She gave Josh much needed encouragement. Still, he made Reva’s life a living hell, blaming her for his condition. It culminated with her breaking down at a party where she baptized herself the slut of Springfield — believing that’s how he saw her.
Josh eventually softened his hard stance against her — but perhaps a little too much. He and Reva, still his father’s wife, made love after a heatwave broke. Their love for each other helped give him the will to learn to walk again.
But it was after Billy threw a cheating Reva out of their father’s house, that an angry Josh took his first steps — to stop his brother and try to help Reva. Josh was ready to make a future with Reva, but when he learned that she was pregnant with H.B.’s child, he gallantly chose to leave town for his father’s sake.
A Return to Guiding Light
A few years later, Josh Lewis came back to Springfield. It was after Reva’s relationship with Kyle was coming to an end. Next, Josh was stunned beyond words when his “late” wife Sonni turned up alive.
On the heels of (erroneously) learning that Reva’s daughter, Marah, wasn’t his, Josh reunited with Sonni, who believed (also, erroneously) that she was her twin, Solita. Josh and Reva couldn’t deny their love and reunited on the shores of Venezuela. He split from Sonni, and his heart was filled with joy after finding out Marah was indeed his.
The Nanny
Josh and Reva enjoyed a lavish wedding at their beloved Cross Creek, surrounded by their family and friends. A standup guy, Josh accepted Dylan, Reva’s son with Billy, into their lives. Josh became a dad again when Reva gave birth to Shayne.
