Chadwick Boseman Facts: Celebrities Who Started on Soaps

Chadwick Boseman is best known for his starring role as T’Challa in the blockbuster Marvel film Black Panther. The actor has also appeared in movies such as 42, Get On Up, and Marshall. Like so many actors, started on a soap.

Boseman has also been on other television shows such as ER, Law & Order, and CSI: NY. From where he was born and raised to getting a little help from a legend, here are five fast facts about the actor.

Who Is Chadwick Boseman?

Boseman was born on November 29 in Anderson, South Carolina. His mother was a nurse and his father worked at a textile factory. He graduated from T.L. Hanna High School, which is where he first became interested in acting. He then attended Howard University and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in directing.

Legendary Help
One of Boseman’s teachers while at Howard University was current This Is Us guest-star, Phylicia Rashad, who became a mentor. She actually helped raise funds to have Boseman and some of his classmates attend a summer program at the British American Drama Academy in London, and Denzel Washington was one of the actors who donated.

Soap Beginnings
After graduating from college, Boseman began his acting career and was actually cast as Reggie Porter Montgomery on All My Children. However, he left the show and ended up being replaced by his future Black Panther co-star, Michael B. Jordan.

The Play’s The Thing

Boseman is not just an actor, he is also an accomplished playwright. He wrote his first play called Crossroads in high school, which was about a student in his school getting shot. Another script he wrote, called Deep Azure, was performed at the Congo Square Theatre Company in Chicago and nominated for a 2006 Joseph Jefferson Award for New Work.

SAG Winner
Boseman is best known for playing T’Challa in the Marvel film Black Panther, which was a massive success. He and his co-stars won the SAG Award in 2019 for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The film was also nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and picked up three awards that night.
