Another World, which debuted on May 4, 1964, may be gone but it’ll never be forgotten! A fan luncheon is taking place in Tarrytown, New York on the show’s 60th anniversary date next month, and Soap Hub has talked to AW devotee Karen McKenny, who has taken on the Herculean task of putting the big day together.
McKenny was motivated to bring AW fans together after noticing how much support remains for the beloved series. “I joined the Facebook group Another World Memories many years ago and eventually became an administrator,” she tells Soap Hub.
“People were asking why there hasn’t been a reunion,” she continues. “As we navigated the pandemic, we saw that people were finding comfort in the nostalgia of past daytime drama. Membership in our group almost doubled. So, I started asking how people would feel about a reunion event and received a very favorable reply.”
The Another World 60th Anniversary Celebration Cast Reunion/Fan Luncheon will be held at Tarrytown House Estate on the Hudson, Biddle Mansion, 4 E Sunnyside Lane, Tarrytown, New York 10591 on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 11:30 am to 4 pm. Self-parking is included.
McKenny’s goal is to make the fan experience an interactive one in which attendees will be able to have facetime and get selfies and autographs with their AW favorites. To that end, guests will enjoy a 30-minute welcome reception. Lunch will be held from 12 noon to 1 pm during which time there will be a video presentation. A Q&A will follow from 1 to 2 pm. Then, there will be a two-hour block from 2 to 4 pm for autographs and selfies.
As of now, many cast members have committed to attending, with more likely to sign up between now and the day of the event. Stars attending include Judith Barcroft Washam (Lenore Moore 1966-1971), Jordan Charney (Sam Lucas 1967-1974), Barbara Rodell (Lee Randolph 1968-1969), Leonie Norton (Cindy Clark 1970-1972), Ariana Muenker (Marianne Randolph 1975-1977), Susan Keith (Cecile DePoulignac 1979-1981), Janice Lynde (Tracy DeWitt 1979-1981), Paul Katz (Dooley 1980-1981), Christopher Marcantel (Pete Shea 1981-1982), Linda Dano (Felicia Gallant 1983-1999), and Kale Browne (Michael Hudson 1986-92; 1993, 1995-1998.)
Also attending are: Lewis Arlt (David Thatcher 1983-1984, Ken Jordan 1990-1991, Scriptwriter), Sofia Landon Geier (Jennifer Thatcher 1983, Donna Love 1990-1991, 1993, Scriptwriter 1992-1999), Julie Osburn (Kathleen McKinnon Winthrop 1984-1986, 1989, 1991, 1993), Anna Holbrook (Sharlene Frame 1988-1991, 1993-1997, 1999), Laurence Lau (Jamie Frame 1986-1990), Anne Marie Howard (Nicole Love 1987-1989), James Kiberd (Dustin Trent 1989), Russell Todd (Jamie Frame 1990-1993), Cali Timmins Pierson (Paulina Cory 1990-1991), Paul Michael Valley (Ryan Harrison 1990-1995, 1996-1997). McKenny says she watched AW and other soaps while growing up, but the talents of actors including Victoria Wyndham (Rachel), the late Douglass Watson (Mac) and Constance Ford (Ada) made the NBC serial a favorite. “As a small child, my earliest memory was the 1980 storyline that took place in St. Croix where Rachel rescued Mac from Janice [Christine Jones],” McKenny says.
“I was a big fan of Rachel and Ada, and Carl [Charles Keating],” she says. “I watched Another World for the storylines and also to study great actors like Victoria Wyndham, Douglass Watson, Anna Stuart [Donna Love], and Charles Keating. The quality of the acting was a big draw, and the writing was far superior.”
