Celebrating 60 Years In Another World

Another World premiered on NBC on May 4, 1964. It was the first show to expand to an hour from 30 minutes in 1975. It was the first show to expand to 90 minutes in 1979. And then, it was the first show to go back to 60 minutes in 1980. AW was canceled in 1999, but in 2009, it was the first show to present an officially sanctioned multimedia online continuation, Another World Today, which ran through 2014. On Saturday, May 4 2024, actors, writers, directors, producers and, most importantly, fans, got together to celebrate the show’s 60th anniversary in Tarrytown, NY.

Familiar Faces

Among the famous folks in attendance were the following:

  • Daytime Emmy-winner Linda Dano, who played romance novelist Felicia Gallant from 1983 until the show’s final episode. Among Felicia’s most famous stories was rediscovering her daughter, Lorna (Alicia Coppola, later Robin Christopher) she’d thought died at birth, her friendship with partner in crime Cass (Stephen Schnetzer), her on-again, off-again romance with mobster Lucas (John Aprea), and the alcoholism storyline, whose intervention episodes won Dano that Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
  • Two Jamie Frames, including Laurence Lau (1986-1990) and Russell Todd (1990-1993). Jamie was arguably the show’s most famous birth. His mother, Rachel (Robin Stasser, later Victoria Wyndham), slept with Steve (George Reinholt, later David Canary) to keep him away from true love Alice (Jacqueline Courtney). Their triangle’s popularity was what prompted NBC to make the show an hour in 1975. Viewers longed for more drama, and other shows soon followed suit with the 60-minute format.
  • Ricky Paul Goldin (Dean) who, with co-star Alla Korot, was part of one of the most 1980s musical videos ever — even though it actually aired in 1991.

More Where That Came From

Also dropping by to join the fun were Daytime Emmy-winner Anna Holbrook (Sharlene), Anna Stuart (Donna), Julie Osborn (Kathleen), Alice Barrett (Frankie, and, later, her lookalike, Anne), Cali Timmons (the first Paulina, before the role was taken over by Judi Evans), and Susan Keith (the first actress to bring to life the manipulative Cecile. The late Nancy Frangione took over the part after Keith exited Bay City.)
