Alec Baldwin is best known for appearing on television shows such as 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live, along with a long and impressive film career, but the actor got his start on the NBC soap, The Doctors.
Some of the most iconic movies he’s starred in were Beetlejuice, The Departed, and the Mission Impossible series. He has been pursuing acting since he was quite young. From his first onscreen role to writing an episode of Law & Order, here are five fast facts about the actor!
Baldwin was born on April 3 in Amityville, New York, but he was raised near Massapequa. He is the older brother of Daniel, William, and Stephen, who are also all actors. Baldwin played football in high school and attended George Washington University for three years. He then transferred to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Soap Beginnings
Baldwin’s first acting role was as Billy Aldrich on the NBC daytime soap, The Doctors, who was involved with Nola (played by the legendary Kim Zimmer). He was on the show in the early 1980s but decided to leave to pursue other acting opportunities.
Law & Order: Tabloid
Baldwin actually was credited for the story in an episode of Law & Order called “Tabloid,” which aired in 1998. It was about a man who confessed to killing a gossip columnist who was responsible for his wife’s death and was inspired by Baldwin’s own relationship with the tabloids. He did not appear in the episode.
For two years in a row, Baldwin played the onscreen husband of the Best Actress Academy Award winner. He played Cate Blanchett’s husband in Blue Jasmine and he also played Julianne Moore’s husband in Still Alice. In fact, Baldwin has been in both movies Blanchett has won an Oscar for, as he was also in The Aviator.
