Just 20 years ago, there were 12 soaps on the air and now there are only four. So it would be understandable if today’s soap opera fan was worried about how much longer their favorite show may have.

Ratings have been showing a steady decline year after year, and frankly, even week after week, thanks to the crazy real-life drama the world is seeing unravel before its eyes each day.

Surely things can be turned around, right? Or can they? Soap Hub asked if you’re worried about the possibility of your favorite soap facing cancellation, and your answer was crystal clear.

Danger Looms
A whopping 74% of fans are indeed worried that their favorite soap may go off the air. And that is certainly understandable considering how many shows have been cancelled.

Many General Hospital fans are still smarting from losing All My Children, One Life to Live, Loving/The City, and Edge of Night.

Those who watch The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful can’t believe they lost both Procter and Gamble soaps, Guiding Light and As The World Turns.

And of course Generations, Santa Barbara, Another Word, Sunset Beach, and Passions fans fear that Days of Our Lives could be next.

World Always Needs Soaps
Ignore all the naysayers, say 26% of you. Soaps are necessary, and there’s no way the networks will let them go away completely. You can’t imagine your day having to go on without the Newman, Forrester, Corinthos or Horton families.

You count on following their weddings, murders, babies, and everything else that makes a soap opera great. Here’s hoping you’re absolutely right.
