Soap Fans Plan For a World With No Soaps! What Will You Do?

With only four classic daytime soaps left on the air, it’s not unreasonable for fans to worry about a time when that number will shrink down to zero.

The only consolation to losing the daytime soaps we have over the past decade – farewell, Guiding Light, As the World Turns, All My Children, One Life To Live and the rest – is how many primetime shows are basically soaps in another time-slot.

This Is Us, Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Blacklist, even sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory and competition shows like Dancing With the Stars have stories – and couples – that carry over from week to week.

It’s not the same as getting your five days a week fix, but if worst comes to worst, 70% of you plan to record those primetime shows – and watch them in the daytime!

Before soaps went on location, and had heroines going over Argentinian waterfalls (and living to tell about it), not to mention heroes stopping evil weather machines set on taking over the world, and entire families going back in time to the Old West, a great episode consisted of a couple of people sitting around… just talking.

Which means if the networks take our soaps away, 17% of the audience will reluctantly switch to talk shows–and pretend it’s almost the same.

Nothing, vote a do or die 13%! If the soaps are gone, you won’t watch a darn thing on TV. You’ll listen to music. Or check out Netflix. Or maybe you’ll just hit YouTube and review classic clips from the Golden Age of soaps. The networks may give up on your soaps, but the fans will keep them alive forever!
