Soap Fantasies: Dreams Come True Or Complete Nightmare?
 Comments

We’ve all fallen for it one time or another. A soap finally — finally! — runs the scene fans have been waiting forever for and then, bam! Rug pulled out from under you! It’s a dream sequence! Psych!

Most recently, Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) did it with Nicole (Arianne Zucker) proclaiming her love for Eric (Greg Vaughan) — Brady (Eric Marstolf), who? — ending with a steamy kiss. Nope, that was just Eric snoozing away.

The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) pulled a similar switch-a-roo when it looked like Liam (Scott Clifton) had called Bill (Don Diamont) out for the filth that he is for destroying Sally’s (Courtney Hope) life and livelihood all in the name of erecting a reaaaaaalllly big building.

Turns out the entire confrontation was merely Liam’s brief trip to Fantasy Island. That one was an entire episode, so it really fooled viewers, since they weren’t let off the hook at the end of the episode.

Do fans enjoy these peeks at what might be, or do you feel cheated, not getting the real thing? Almost 4,000 viewers told us the truth (or did they?):

Everything In Moderation
Dream sequences are OK once in a while, muse 44% of you. They can be fun, especially when the person in the fantasy just happens to be wearing the same thing they’re wearing in real life — but the dreamer hasn’t seen them yet.

The most important thing is to keep them short. You definitely don’t want them spread out over several episodes. That’s not playing fair!

What’s Happening
If you want pairs and happenings that aren’t onscreen, you’ll check out fan fiction, counter 36% of the audience. If it’s cannon, it better be real, not a ‘What If’ scenario, unless it’s clearly labeled that way from the start.

For example, General Hospital’s (GH) Maxie (Kirsten Storms) wondering about how Port Charles would have been different if BJ hadn’t died, or The Young and the Restless (YR) Christmas Carol episode.

Tell Me Your Fantasies
It’s the minority, 19%, that say the more fantasies the better. They give fans what they want when the “real” show won’t.
