In the early hours of May 7, 1945, the Germans surrendered at the end of WW II and across the Atlantic, Anna Strasser got swept up in the patriotic fever and named her new daughter Robin Victory In Europe Strasser. Yes, that Robin Strasser who went on to become a soap opera legend.
The formidable soap diva is celebrating a birthday, today marks 74 years of absolute fabulousness!
Strasser made her stage debut in the play The Irregular Verb To Love in 1963 and continued to dazzle theatergoers in many other roles, as well as appearing in numerous small parts on television.
But, it was her role as the original Rachel Davis on NBC’s Another World that would make her a household soap name.
Strasser’s Rachel was a working class girl who married Russ Matthews thinking life as a doctor’s wife would bring her wealth and a position in upper crust society.
When Russ proved uninterested in rubbing shoulders with the rich and influential, Rachel made him a virtual cuckold as she shamelessly pursued the dark and brooding Steven Frame.
Strasser starred as Rachel from 1966 until she exited the part in 1971 to pursue other projects. She returned to soaps with a role on ABCs All My Children before joining the cast of sister series One Life To Live as a recast Dorian Cramer Lord.
Strasser, with her combination of biting humor, understated sexuality, and immense vulnerability truly made Dorian a fan favorite character. She was even rewarded for her efforts with the Outstanding Supporting Actress award at the 1982 Daytime Emmys.
Now, the legendary actress has joined the cast of Days of Our Lives, although she has yet to air and whom she will play is being kept under lock and key. But, we can’t wait to see her again.
Please join us at SoapHub as we celebrate Robin Strasser on her special day and wish her many more happy returns!
