There’s an opera saying “It’s not over until the fat lady sings.” For one of these stunning soap opera stars, singing was the impetus for her amazing daytime career!
Many soap stars are multitalented, so unless you’re somebody’s super fan, it’s tough to keep up with every actress’s unique pre-sudser beginnings! That’s why we checked out Sharon Case (Sharon, Y&R), Emme Rylan (Lulu, GH), Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe, Days), and Heather Tom (Katie, B&B) to see which one of them used to be an opera singer. Do you know who it is?
Started Young, never Got Restless
Sharon Case started out at 17 as a model, which she felt would be a great stepping stone to a career as an actress. Although this lovely and talented woman landed roles in musicals like Grease, The Wizard, and The Nutcracker, she isn’t the daytime star who got her start as an opera singer.
So Bold, So Beautiful
Heather Tom has enjoyed a long and storied daytime career. Plus, in 2000, both she and her brother David (ex-Billy Abbott, Y&R) made history for being the first brother and sister duo to earn Daytime Emmy Nominations in the same year!
The talented actress did not get her start as an opera singer, though. She got her big break on the hit primetime show Who’s The Boss! Do you remember ever seeing her on that show?
General Hospital Artist Emme Rylan
Emme Rylan appeared on Guiding Light (Lizzie), The Young and the Restless (ex-Abby Newman), and now General Hospital (Lulu). The soon-to-be mother of three got her acting start on daytime. She’s an incredibly talented and artistic seamstress with her own amazing Etsy store, but she did not get her start as an opera singer.
The Days Go By Like Hours
Nadia Bjorlin was known as “ghoul girl” at one time on Days of Our Lives, but clearly, she’s everything BUT that! This lovely and talented actress actually did start out singing in an opera when she was younger.
The daughter of Swedish composer and conductor Mats Ulf Stefan Björlin, the DAYS veteran sang with the Palm Beach Opera, and in 1996 was part of a gold-medal-winning group that sang in an international competition in Verona, Italy. She and two of her brother, Ulf and Jean Paul also formed a trio with music available on iTunes.
In May 1999, she took home first place in the Metro Lyric Opera Competition in New York City. However, once she finished her schooling, she ended up focusing on an acting career instead of singing although she did leave the show briefly and 2003 to focus on singing again.
Did you realize she’d started out as an opera singer before signing on as a soap opera actress?
