After suffering a massive stroke last week, Luke Perry, who rose to fame as Dylan McKay on FOX’s Beverly Hills, 90210, has passed away.
Perry was only 52 years old when he was found at his Sherman Oaks home last Wednesday, according to TMZ. He was responsive when paramedics arrived, but the situation was much more grave than feared.
According to a rep for the actor, he died Monday morning at St. Joseph’s hospital in Burbank surrounded by children, Sophie and Jack, as well as his fiance, Wendy Madison Bauer.
Most recently, Perry had been enjoying a resurgence of his career on the primetime series, Riverdale, based on the Archie Comic Book series. Also, just last week, a short-term Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot was announced using the original cast and characters.
Perry spent 10 seasons as Dylan on the primetime soap, but before that was known to daytime fans from the now-defunct shows, Another World and Loving, in the late 1980s.
To the Riverdale cast, Perry was both a mentor and father figure. In 2017, KJ Apa (Archie) told Variety the following:
“He’s done the whole thing on a completely different level. His show [Beverly Hills 90210] was the biggest thing in his time. He’ll give us advice on shooting things and what to say in interviews.”
Soap Hub sends our condolences to Perry, his friends, and family during this difficult time.
