Patrika Darbo remains one of daytime’s busiest actresses! She’s joined the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful, but fans haven’t seen the last of her as Nancy on Days of Our Lives!
Soap Hub caught up with Darbo recently at St. Baldrick’s annual head-shaving event in North Hollywood to chat with her about her many projects, her prime time Emmy win last year, and why she skipped some of this year’s Daytime Emmy voting! (Spoiler: It’s for a very good reason!)
You’ve been involved with St. Baldrick’s for years. Why?
It’s a wonderful organization. It’s all about the community getting together for a cause. We have fireman, policeman, city council members, and local bigwigs and then we also have little boys and girls shaving their heads [in solidarity] for their brothers and sisters or for their best friends [who are battling cancer]. It’s so emotional, you want to shave your own head!
The gathering makes people who are going through an incredibly difficult time feel less alone.
Yes, you’re absolutely right. When someone sick sees how much they’re loved and supported, it gives them hope. I wish there were more celebrities that came here and showed their support, but there are other great events like Stand Up To Cancer [that have great celebrity attendance]. Hopefully, we can beat cancer!
The St. Baldrick’s event is going at the same time as some Daytime Emmy voting, yes?
Yes. Usually, it’s all online, but they still bring us to a location for a few categories. But I had already committed to coming to this, and I try to always honor my commitments!

Speaking of Emmys, where do you keep your Primetime Emmy that you won last year for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for Acting Dead?
It’s right in the front doorway when you walk into [my home]. There it is, baby! [Laughs] It reminds me that I’m respected by my peers and that means a lot to me! It also reminds me I’m a working actor.
You gave a great speech. Was there anyone you left out?
I don’t think so. But I don’t think I thanked [producer] Susan Bernhardt on camera. She gave me my start in Web series. I’m shooting another one. I can’t say too much about it, but I play a character who is friends with a gorgeous Russian model. It’s a fun project.
You did an episode of American Dad, too.
Yes. I don’t know if it’s aired. But it was a whole other genre for me to get into. I was very lucky to have been called in by a casting director who knows me from something else. The episode I’m in is sort of a takeoff on Silence of the Lambs.
And you have a Lifetime movie coming up?
Yes. It’s called Stolen from the Cradle. I play the grandmother who keeps saying, “Something’s wrong!”
Speaking of grandmothers and stolen babies, it’s been fun seeing you back on DAYS as Nancy. Do you have any more shows coming up?
I do. Because I committed to those shows [before being cast as Shirley on B&B], Brad [Bell] let me finish them. They don’t air until June. It’s [material written by] the old writers. When I came back in 2013, Nancy took Parker to Rio! So she’s always doing something nice to protect [Chloe]. She loves Holly, too. Part of her wants to do the right thing. She also wants to protect her child.
