These two legendary soap stars played bitter rivals on The Young and the Restless and now General Hospital star Michelle Stafford has penned a tribute to her dear friend Lauralee Bell for her birthday.
Sure, Stafford’s character Phyllis, on Y&R, tried to kill Bell’s Christine, but that didn’t get in the way of the two actors forging a strong bond.
Bell, who celebrated her 50th birthday on December 22, got a very special message from her former co-star on Instagram — with an expert photobomb by Christian J. Le Blanc (Michael).
“Happy Birthday to my beautiful friend @lauralee_bell you and your dad changed my life ❤️ When I found out I had the role of Phyllis opposite Lauralee I was a bit nervous as she was the boss’s daughter, ya know?
“You would expect someone in that position to use it to their advantage. I will be 100% honest here… I never once saw lauralee do this. Not once. You wouldn’t even know that she was related to the boss at all.
“I have never seen this in my life… Still. That speaks to her character. In order for a perfect rivalry to work on a show, there has to be understanding, love and respect between the 2 actors. If there isn’t it usually doesn’t translate…
“Most of all, I think there has to be love. On-camera rivalries work best when the two people playing it are great friends. It’s my pleasure to call you my friend sis! You are a lovely, wise, strong woman. Have the best day ever!!”
