Soap Opera Ratings Race: Improvements Across The Board

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending December 30 showed improvements for all four daytime dramas from the week before. However, no numbers were as high as they were the same time a year ago.

The Young and the Restless
The perpetually number one-rated The Young and the Restless gained the most viewers on average from the week before, pulling in 5,090,000 viewers, up a decent 361,000 from the week before but down 414,000 from a year ago. Y&R also gained in the three female demographic categories from the previous week, but lost viewers from the previous year.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful landed at number two once again, garnering 4,018,000 viewers on average, up 266,000 from the week prior, yet down 197,000 from the year prior. In the female demos, it also gained from the week before and lost from the year before.

General Hospital
ABC’s General Hospital pulled in 2,818,000 average viewers overall, gaining 130,000 from the previous week, but losing 557,000 from the previous year. It performed the same in two of the three demos, meaning for women 18-34, it lost 18,000 from the week before and 84,000 from the year before. GH came in number four out of four soaps in that category.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives was once again in last place overall, garnering 2,547,000 viewers on average, gaining 91,000 from the week before, but losing 266,000 from the previous year. Like Y&R and B&B, it gained viewers from the week before in the three female demos, but lost viewers from the same time last year.
