Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of January 6-10 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless.

Top 10 Hits and Misses

10. HIT: Nina and Curtis scenes (GH). Last week, Nina and Curtis were one of our honorable mentions. This week, they’ve graduated to the Top 10 because GH continues to pair them in scenes. They’re scheming against Drew (Cameron Mathison) together, they’re being honest with each other. And they challenge each other. Cynthia Watros and Donnell Turner are magic in scenes.

9. MISS: How Taylor and Steffy discuss Brooke (B&B). Taylor (Rebecca Budig) and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) are grown women and they are formidable in their own right. But their recent discussions about Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) are beyond insulting and petty. They keep talking about Brooke crying to get her way. As if they aren’t flawed women at all. What’s that saying about casting the first stone? Yes, stop judging others until your own faults have been addressed.

8. HIT: Kristen disciplines Rachel (DAYS). It was an unexpected surprise this week when Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) realized Rachel (Finley Rose Slater) was the one to send Ava (Tamara Braun) the threatening texts. Instead of joining in on her daughter’s revenge plan, she appropriately admonished her kid. She took away her phone, changed the WiFi password at the DiMera mansion, and she genuinely looked upset that Rachel was following in her mother’s footsteps.

7. HIT: Damian remains cagey and has Nate perplexed (Y&R). First impression of Damian (Nathan Owens), is he’s going to be someone that shouldn’t be underestimated. He didn’t salivate over the job at Winters like Nate (Sean Dominic) expected. But he was intrigued. We’re excited to see how this half-brother story develops from here, especially when he gets to Genoa City.

6. MISS: Adam is non-existent from Ian’s revenge story (Y&R). How is Adam (Mark Grossman) not involved in this story? At the very least, let him be at the new Newman Ranch with Victor (Eric Braden), Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), and Nick (Joshua Morrow) when Ian (Ray Wise) arrives to face the family he hates.

5. HIT: The real Catherina story absolves John of guilt (DAYS). Another unexpected moment from DAYS this week. Cat (AnnaLynne McCord) sat down with Marlena (Deidre Hall) and proceeded to clean up the Konstantin (formerly John Kapelos)/Pawn story arc. John (the late Drake Hogestyn) never hurt Catherina (Susan Elena Matus), he was a hero. Victor (the late John Aniston) sent him to Greece to help her get out of an abusive environment. John can have peace of mind now. What an emotional conversation.

4. HIT: Mariah confronts Ian (Y&R). Well, Adam may not be involved in the Ian supervillain story thus far, but Mariah (Camryn Grimes) sure is, of course. She’s had a couple of run-ins with Ian. But the one in the park where she unleashed holy hell on the man who caused her so much trauma was supremely satisfying. Especially the part where she told Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) to go wait for her and then proceeded to threaten to kill Ian. Surely, this will come back to bite her in the you-know-what, but Camryn Grimes was great.

3. MISS: Kerry is Lady Whistleblower (DAYS). We’re wondering about the reason why Kerry (Derek Yates) is the Lady Whistleblower. So far, Leo (Greg Rikaart) rejecting him doesn’t cut it, but we do suspect he may not be the only one involved in wanting Body & Soul destroyed.

2. HIT: Brooke tells Ridge she’s nobody’s victim (B&B). Yes, Brooke has said she’s done with Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) before and it never took. And it probably won’t take again. But, we still enjoyed Brooke realizing Ridge was a waffler of the highest order and that he demanded full loyalty even though he doesn’t have to show the same across-the-board loyalty. Here’s the bulk of the speech that gets our applause:

We were supposed to be together for the rest of our lives. But every time I do something that you don’t approve of, you abandon me. You made your choice when you shared a bed with Taylor. I’m gonna make my choice now, too. I’m not going to be a victim of yours or anybodys, and I deserve a man who loves me completely, and that certainly isn’t you. I wish I never set foot in this house. I wish my mom never accepted that damn caterer’s job all those years ago. But you know what? I am…I am done. I can’t do this anymore.

1. MISS: Michael suffering in the fire while Drew and Willow have sex in Washington D.C. (GH). The juxtaposition of Michael (Chad Duell) suffering while Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) went at it in D.C. was difficult to watch.

Honorable Mentions

MISS: Tessa’s naivete where Ian is concerned (Y&R). How is nobody putting two and two together that Ian drugged Tessa only to save her and prove to everyone he’s a good guy? It’s a pretty logical leap. So watching Tessa be nice to Ian about giving her the inhaler is hard because she’s smarter than that.

HIT: Joss’ hero worship theory (GH). Joss (Eden McCoy) wasn’t the only one to make this deduction. Michael had a similar theory going that Willow has this need to be with her heroes. She falls in love with heroic men. She looks at them with these heart eyes and builds a life with them. When the next one comes along, she moves on. It’s fascinating and needs exploration…in therapy. Yes, Willow needs therapy. She has been through so much trauma in her lifetime.

HIT: Julie and Chad talk about their grief (DAYS). In the Friday, January 10 episode of DAYS, Julie and Chad had a long talk about grief over losing the loves of their lives. It was heartfelt, heartbreaking, and made us emotional. Susan Seaforth Hayes and Billy Flynn play off each other wonderfully. Julie and Chad continue to be there for each other and comfort each other.

MISS: Finn doesn’t play devil’s advocate anymore (B&B). Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Steffy are one of our favorite soap couples. But lately we’ve noticed that he never calls Steffy out on any of her actions anymore. We love couples that challenge each other and stand up for each other. But with Steffy sending in Daphne Rose (Murielle Hilaire) to help get Forrester back, the part where she wants her friend to seduce Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) is kind of icky. And Finn doesn’t give her any advice or tell her some of the pitfalls of her plan. It’s kind of sad.
